2026 Iowa (IA-01) US House Voters Guide

Legal.  Would “put Roe v. Wade back into federal law where it belongs and restore reproductive freedom for all Iowans.” Says Iowa’s six-week “fetal heartbeat” ban “puts women’s lives…at risk.” Opposes the Life at Conception Act, which guarantees right to life beginning at fertilization; it leads to an “abortion ban with no exceptions.”

Ban. Is “pro-life.” Sponsored a 15-week abortion ban. Said the overturning of Roe v. Wade “helps us to bring [abortion decisions] back closer to the people.” In 2021, sponsored the Life at Conception Act guaranteeing “the right to life” at “the moment of fertilization.” Voted against barring governmental restrictions on abortion.

Mostly increase. “I oppose forcing everyone onto Medicare…. I want everyone to have health care coverage, and I want everyone to have choices,” Medicare or private insurance. Would “reverse… Medicaid cuts and extend ACA subsidies.” Expand Medicare’s ability to negotiate lower drug prices.

“We do need to secure our border, but we do need to provide a path to citizenship.” “Biden was too slow to act on immigration.” Supports “a timely process” to vet “legitimate asylum seekers.” Would raise the number of immigrants accepted for economic reasons, including foreign-born doctors. Wouldn’t abolish ICE; “but I do think that we need some real reform.”

Voted to build 900 miles of border wall, limit asylum, and require employers use E-Verify for new employees.
