Three out of the seven seats on the Ohio Supreme Court are up for election on November 5. The Court is composed of four Republican and three Democratic justices. One of the three races is for an open seat: vying for the position are Democrat Lisa Forbes, an Eighth District Court of Appeals judge, and Republican Dan Hawkins, a judge for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. The winning candidate will complete the two years remaining in the six-year term of Justice Joseph Deters. (Deters, appointed to fill a vacancy on the court, is vacating his position to challenge Justice Melody Stewart for a full six-year term on the court.) The Ohio Supreme Court decides questions of state law that can have a significant impact. To download a pdf of this guide, click here.
